Grasses and clumping type plants are becoming more and more fashionable, not only because they look great but also because they’re easy care. Here are some fabulous new releases to check out next time you're at the nursery.
This one on the left you may have seen already. It’s called Red Fountain and it’s a type of clumping cordyline bred in New Zealand. The first thing that grabs you is the stunning burgundy red foliage. It contrasts beautifully with other colours. The leaves cascade nicely too so it’s a good one for tall ornate pots. Looks good all year round, doesn’t need much care or water, you couldn't ask for more.

But how about this beauty? It’s another one from New Zealand called Libertia ‘Goldfinger’. Again, it has very striking foliage this time with a prominent golden yellow stripe. Looks great in a pot too, or you could mass plant it on a border to create a really bright colourful effect. It only gets to about ½ m tall and and in spring it produces a mass of pure white star-shaped flowers.
The last one is an Australian native hybrid - a new form of Lomandra confertifolia called 'Seascape' and it features this lovely fine blue-grey foliage. You can imagine if you planted it en masse, the wonderful effect it would have in a gentle breeze creating almost a rippling ocean effect. Or if you like, it’s another great choice for a pot on a balcony or patio.
