I love it when daisies burst into bloom. It’s nature’s way of telling us that spring is just around the corner. Every year, if you head down to your nursery you’re likely to discover some new varieties.
Recently I found a terrific new range called ‘Crazy Daisy’. They’ve been bred to produce masses of colourful blooms on a very compact bush. The blooms themselves are double and you’ll find the range includes a yellow, pink and white form.
I think they’d be a great choice for growing in pots on a patio as well as mass planted in the garden. They’re also very disease resistant so they’ll continue to thrive even in the hot, humid summers experienced in coastal Australia.
You may already know and love the African Daisies that commonly produce white, purple or mauve flowers. Well, I was pleased to discover these superb performers in all sorts of new colours. There is a yellow variety called lemon symphony, one with a lovely cream flower as well as an orange form that just looks superb.
All of these daisies should give you years of colour in the garden. The trick to keep them looking great is to nip off the spent flowers and give them a regular light trim. Follow that up with a deep drink and a little fertiliser and they’ll go on blooming for months.
Nothing says spring like daisies and now’s the time to get them in the ground.
